We headed out for some lunch at Maria Antoinetta's and then, as we were about to hail a cab to take us to see our films, we realised that the cinema schedule we'd been looking at was in fact in Buenos Aires, not Mendoza and no films started in Mendoza until the evening so we chilled back at the hotel, caught up with friends and family then went out to Azafran, a well recommended restaurant in the area.
It was a beautiful restaurant with lots of interesting trinkets all over the place.
Next to our table was a bunch of antique alarm clocks!
The food was delicious but the unique thing about this restaurant is that they don't have a wine menu, they have a wine room!!
Our sommelier led us into the cool room and made some suggestions to us. We decided on a bottle of Cabernet Franc as we'd enjoyed this so much a few nights previous with Frankie the wine maker.
Before visiting Mendoza we'd never heard of Cabernet Franc wine at all but it's actually very popular in South America. The Cabernet Franc grape is what is used to make Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc wines use only one grape whereas Cab Sav is a blend of 2.
During our meal the waiter brought us over 2 glasses of Chandon sparkling wine which had been paid for as a belated anniversary gift from Pablo, the manager of our hotel. They went down a treat, especially as Chandon is a sister winery to Moet, Lauren's favourite champagne!
Then, back to the hotel for our last night in marvelous Mendoza.
