We packed our bags and walked to the bus station, paid our 75p each and jumped on the bus to Brazil's Iguacu airport.
Feeling quite pleased with ourselves we strutted into the check in area and looked at the electronic departure boards to check if there were any delays. But we couldn't find our flight....
We queued up and asked at the information point only to find out that we were at the wrong airport. We should've been at Iguazu airport, not Iguacu airport (they don't make it easy)! The other issue was, Iguacu airport, where we were, was in Brazil and Iguazu airport was in Argentina!! What a nightmare! Not only were we in the wrong airport but we were in the wrong country!!
Thankfully time was on our side as Argentina is 1 hour behind Brazil (at this part) and the border was close so we opted for a taxi to take us the 40 minute drive and we arrived at the correct airport before we'd left!
On the way we crossed the Iguazu river and the driver stopped for us to take a picture as this is the border of three countries.
On the right: Brazil
On the left: Argentina
On the horizon: Paraguay
We checked in and then found out, after all our rushing, the flight was delayed about 2.5 hours!
We ate lunch, FaceTimed some family and boarded our flight to our next destination: Buenos Aires.
Upon arrival at Buenos Aires (BA) we got a cab to our hotel and checked in.
Now, this is the part of the journey that Lauren is very proud of. As she was looking for accommodation in BA, she came across a number of hostels and also a hotel called "The Savoy" which was priced only slightly more than a decent hostel. I thought they're was no way it would be THE Savoy but, it turns out IT WAS!!
So, for half the price of a Travelodge we were checking into the Savoy in BA!!
After unpacking, we realised our air conditioning wasn't working so reported it and went out for dinner.
We found an amazing steak restaurant on Trip Advisor and ate our first juicy Argentinean steak washed down with a lovely Malbec, all for the price of a meal at The Harvester!
Shortly before this photo was taken, an Argentinean businessman came over, insisted on shaking our hands and rattled on in Spanish for about 5 minutes. He'd clearly drunk his own bodyweight in Malbec as he was struggling to stand. Eventually he realised we were English so took it on himself to sing the old Dean Martin classic, "You're nobody 'till somebody loves you" ALL THE WAY THROUGH!!
We'd already noted that it was quite a romantic setting but this wasn't quite what we had in mind! Even the waiter didn't know quite what to do and stood behind him waiting for the song to finish before he'd pour our wine!
He refused to move on until he'd kissed Lauren's hand but once he'd done that seemed happy enough to go.
When we arrived back at the hotel they couldn't fix our air conditioning so offered to change our room. I cheekily asked for an upgrade and when the Bellboy took us to the new room, we'd been given a suite! We couldn't believe it!
Rain is forecast for tomorrow so we're going to enjoy the room and make the most of it as from here on in we're hosteling most of the way!
Ciao!

Nice one Brockles!

DeleteLoved seeing a corner of my favourite country - Paraguay. We have a similar picture but right up where they all meet. There is a similar corner in Newport Pagnell where two rivers meet and there are three corners and when I go to sit there I think of that exact place!
